TheTrump-Pence victory has sent president Obama and concerned citizens scrambling to try to protect Planned Parenthood’s funding for the next fouryears.
Both Trump and Pence have been vocal about their stance on women’s healthcare and, in particular, reproductive rights.
Trump became vocally anti-abortion during his campaign, andPence has a legislative record that’s absolutely vehement in its rejection of a woman’s right to choose.
Trump has also said he will repeal Obamacare, which gives women access to contraception.
As for Pence, his platform is heavily steeped in conservative Christian beliefs, and he wants to overturn Roe vs Wade, as well as force women to hear their fetus’ heartbeat before terminating a pregnancy.
Unsurprisingly, many people have expressed anger that two men will deny women autonomy over their own bodies, and now they’re speaking out in a way that is benefitting the very cause the newly elected duo are trying to shut down.
It started on Saturday when Katy Perry walked the walk by donating $10,000 to Planned Parenthood, the reproductive health nonprofit that will likely lose funding during the Trump-Pence administration.
Now more celebrities are sharing their donations, and they’re doing it with a geniustwist by putting the donations in Vice President-elect Mike Pence’s name so he’ll receive a certificate of the donation.
Ashley Hinsaw shared the information alongside the caption: Done #womensrights.
Jaime King saw Ashleys post and did the same.
Then there was Bethany Cosentino.
That prompted Amber Rose Tamblyn, who has spoken out about sexual assault, to do the same.
Amy Schumer was then inspired to donate.
And for the record, Pence has voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which would close the wage gap, three times. So he deserves the trollingthat’s coming to him.
As for Planned Parenthood, they said they were “blown away by the support” and thanked everyone donating on behalf of Mike Pence and Hillary Clinton.
If you want to do the same, just go to the Planned Parenthood website and check the box: “Yes, my gift is in honor or in memory of someone special.”
